![]() Of course, Photoshop is leaps and bounds above CS6 now. "Affinity Photo does everything that Photoshop in CS6 did as far as I can tell, with the notable exception of 3D, which I never used anyway." I also was getting new cameras and lenses more frequently then, whereas now, my next camera will likely be the K-1 III which won't come out till next year. I would guess that ended up costing me 30 or 35 dollars a year. My tendency with Lightroom when it was free standing was to get the new version every three to four years. Most of the other features are slight improvements on existing things, although I guess they have added masks to Lightroom now. I'd be willing to pay an equivalent of 3 yrs subscription for such a software. The biggest thing to me is that Adobe gives new camera and lens modules that aren't accessible to those using older versions of Lightroom. Unfortunately, no one has come up with an alternative to the LR+PS package that is on par, even after so long. I am paying yearly for no added need for more features. Thats my main dislike for the subscription. Hence, in most cases, LR6 typically will do what LR-CC is being used to do. I think that much of the processing tech like our camera tech has been to the point that it is good enough for most cases. I'm sure there are improvements that subscription Lightroom offers that I don't have access to, but I just hate to start using a subscription service for this sort of thing. I am still using version 6.14 and it is OK. What I dislike about Adobe is that its a yearly subscription for something that for my uses (including all the above) is still relatively stagnant since I have largely settled on the techniques I used within PS.I think Lightroom is a tough replacement - it is good enough that none of the non-Adobe options are quite there, but still, for a hobby photographer, it feels like a big ask to commit to 100-ish dollars a year "in perpetuity" to use a product. How good are the liquefy tools for full body portrait 'nip/tuck'? Pano, stitching and perspective correction?ĥ. Most tutorials from 'influencers' will be based on PS in other words, easier to find information for what to doĤ. How 'smart' are the selection tools like magic wand and lasso?ģ. You can learn more about Luminar 4 and the Humble Bundle (plus see the above process in action) in the video below. Can't say its a replacement to PS. While these instructions are specific to Affinity Photo, any program such as Paintshop Pro should also be able to install Luminar using this process. Once done, you can access Luminar 4 in Plugins->Skylum Software->Luminar 4 After installing the plugin it will prompt you to restart Affinity Photo. Once selected, Luminar 4 should show up in the detected plugins section. Now click the add button, then select the Luminar directory. In the resulting window select Photoshop Plugins. Now fire up Affinity Photo and select Edit->Preferences. So long as you copied the file earlier into the right folder, you should now see Uninstall in the resulting Window.Ĭlick Uninstall then Install and you are done with Luminar. Now select File->Install Plugins from the main menu. Now right click Luminar 4 in the start menu and Run as Administrator. The end result should be something like this: Inside Adobe create a folder called Plug-ins, then inside that create a folder called CC, then paste the Luminar4.8bf file into that directory. In explorer go to the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files and if one does not exist, create a folder called Adobe. Now we need to copy it into the Adobe plugins folder, a folder that you will most likely have to create. Once there, locate and copy the file Luminar4.8bf. In my case it’s C:\Program Files\Skylum\Luminar 4. Just go with the defaults and don’t worry about the plugins portion if you don’t already have Photoshop installed.Īfter Luminar is installed, navigate to the install folder in Explorer. ![]() Installing Luminar 4 with Affinity Photoįirst, install Luminar 4. If you are simply interested in learning more about Luminar 4 be sure to check out our hands-on video, it’s an impressive program. Therefore in this tutorial we will show how to get Luminar 4 up and running on Affinity Photo 1.8. Luminar 4 is an AI powered image manipulation program that’s easy enough even I can use it! One of the challenges though is that it doesn’t formally support Affinity Photo out of the box, and Affinity Photo is my photo manipulation weapon of choice. This tutorial is going to be a little outside the normal topic of game development but should still be of interest to some of you because Luminar 4 is currently available on Humble Bundle. ![]()
